CREW Training days - February 19-20, 2013

Submissions for this form are closed.

Objective

Participants to the CREW (Cognitive Radio Experimentation World) training days are offered the opportunity to be informed about the relevant achievements of the CREW project so far, and more specifically, about what CREW can offer to anyone interested in cognitive radio, spectrum sharing and cognitive networking solutions.

A first, informative session of the training days is targeted to prospective CREW experimenters, researchers in the field of cognitive radio and cognitive networks, regulators and standardization bodies.  After this informative session, prospective experimenters and other interested participants will be presented with practical information about on how to start using the CREW test facilities and its individual components.  Where relevant, participants will learn to use the different testbeds following a hands-on approach.

The CREW training days not only provide an excellent opportunity to familiarize with the CREW facilities and cognitive components. It is the ideal forum to meet the CREW team and get an answer to all CREW-related questions you may have.

Program

Participation to the training days is free of charge (except for lunches and dinner: these are on your own/ participants are allowed to use the University restaurant if they want). However, registration is required.  Please fill out the form at the bottom of this page to register...

Note: the training days are preceded by the CREW workshop on TV White Spaces on Monday, February 18, also in Brussels. Separate program and free registration are available.

Hotel

There are not a lot of hotels near the VUB campus where the Training Days will take place, but there are a lot in the centre of Brussels (which is also a nice area). Unfortunately, we do not have special discount rates for hotels. Therefore, we do not recommend any particular hotel, but it might be useful to know that some of the CREW consortium partners will stay in the ibis Ste Catherine hotel and the Sandton hotel. These are close to the railway station "Brussel-Centraal", which is convenient if you would take the train from Brussels Airport to the city centre.

Travel

From Brussels Airport to the Training Days

By train: If you are arriving by airplane at Brussels Airport, you can take the elevator to level -1, which leads your directly into the train station "Brussel-Nat.-Luchthaven". You firstly need to take the train with direction 'Gent-Sint-Pieters' or 'Brussel-Zuid'. You need to get out at the station "Brussel-Noord", which will be the second or first stop, respectively. There, you switch to another train with direction 'Louvain-La-Neuve-Univ.' and get out at the station "Etterbeek", which will be the third stop. This is right in front of the VUB campus where the Training Days take place.
Buying a standard single train ticket before embarking at the ticket office or online will cost you € 7.80. Buying a ticket on the train will cost you € 10.80. If buying your ticket on the train, alert the train conductor before you step on the train or as soon as possible after departure (else they can charge you a high penalty fee). This journey will take 35 minutes.

By taxi: Taxis with a taximeter are permanently available in front of the arrivals hall. The fare from the airport to the city centre of Brussels is normally around € 45. Licensed taxis can be recognized by the blue and yellow emblem. Travellers are advised to avoid unlicensed taxis! The trip to the VUB campus will take about 20 min without traffic jams.
